RAPE: 85 YEARS OLD MAN RAPES 12 YEARS OLD GIRL, AS 25 YEARS OLD MAN RAPES 85 YEARS OLD WOMAN.

Series of rape incidence occurred in Ekiti State as preparation and celebration of Christmas was ongoing on the 24th and 25th of December involving an 85-year-old grand father raping a 12-year-old girl, and a 25-year-old young man raping an 85-year-old great grand man.

The police has released a statement alleging that an 85-year-old man, Pa Olajide Ojo of No. B22, Oke Ode Idogun Street, Ikole-Ekiti had raped a 12-year-old hawker (name withheld) on the 24th of December, 2014. According to the report, the incident occurred while the young girl was moving around the street hawking pounded yam. Pa Olajide invited the girl into his room in the pretence that he wanted to buy Pounded Yam. When she entered, Pa Olajide Ojo locked the door and forcefully had sex with her. While the young girl struggled and shouted for help, which alerted neighbours who invited the police. Evidence available to the police shows that the girl was probably a virgin.

The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ikole Division, Ikole-Ekiti, Mr. Victor Babayemi said, “The medical report as well as the blood stained exhibits recovered from the scene confirmed that the victim was defiled by the suspect. He will be charged to court as soon as the industrial ac­tion embarked upon by judi­ciary staff is called off”.

In a similar incident, on the 25th of December, 2014, one Familola Ayodeji aged 25, of 17, Oke Ido Street, Ido-Ekiti had allegedly sneaked into the room where a great grand mother aged 85 was sleeping and raped her. Mr Ayodeji though escaped being caught on the day, was later captured by the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ado Ekiti.

According the PPRO, Mr. Victor, medical report also corroborates that the woman was indeed raped. The police had promised that as soon as the ongoing strike by the Judiciary workers are over, the culprits would be made to face the law. Residents of Oke Ode Idogun lauded the rapid response of the police, but expressed their concern that the police should not treat the matter with levity, rather should jail the rapist.
